AOC Is Under Investigation

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is under investigation by the House Ethics Committee, according to a statement issued by the committee on Wednesday.

The Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE) of the House is an independent, non-partisan entity that reviews allegations of misconduct and when appropriate, refers relevant matters to the House Committee on Ethics.

The OCE received the original submission back in June of this year. Its website states that a submission of information does not automatically result in an investigation.

After reviewing the submission, the OCE forwarded the inquiry into Ocasio-Cortez to the House ethics panel.

Ocasio-Cortez, better known as AOC, is under investigation for unknown reasons and the panel will announce the course of actions after the new year.

“The Committee notes that the mere fact of a referral or an extension, and the mandatory disclosure of such an extension and the name of the subject of the matter, does not itself indicate that any violation has occurred, or reflect any judgment on behalf of the Committee,” the committee’s statement read.

The allegations that initiated the investigation are unknown at this time but the congresswoman has a history of kickbacks even though she publicly denounces perks in the political arena. She was the subject of two separate complaints just last year. The question is, will this investigation turn out to be a nothing-burger like the others?

AOC’s spokeswoman Lauren Hitt released a statement to Forbes on Wednesday following the announcement.

“The congresswoman has always taken ethics incredibly seriously, refusing any donations from lobbyists, corporations, or other special interests,” Hitt said. She also added her office is confident the matter will be dismissed.

The Democrat Socialist has always had a fair amount of attention deriving from her boldness in targeting Republicans and their policies and for being one of the left’s favorite cheerleaders for the woke agenda. AOC became the youngest congresswoman ever in 2019 and has leveraged her youth to attract many young, left-wing Americans.

At times, she’s used some nontraditional methods to reach her audience, like the time she accused Twitter CEO Elon Musk of sabotaging her Twitter account while ravaging a chicken tender on Instagram.

Some would argue her “out there” tactics are what drives her popularity and success with reaching a key demographic that could be quite influential in the future.

AOC is also one of the founders of a group of far-left democrats in the House, known as the “Squad.” The Squad was founded in 2019 by Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Ayanna Pressley (D-MA), and Rashida Tlaib (D-MI).

The Squad welcomed two new members after the 2020 election, Cori Bush (D-MO) and Jamaal Brown (D-NY), and is said to be adding as many as 10 new members with the democrat’s success in the midterms.
