Biden Admin Hints At Endorsing Foreign National Voting In Local DC Elections

Recent White House press briefings have revealed that Joe Biden is possibly in favor of allowing aliens, including diplomats representing foreign nations such as China and Russia, to take part and make their voices heard in local races such as school board and mayoral elections.

Earlier this week, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre appeared to imply that Biden could be in favor of the newly advanced measure.

“The President does not support allowing noncitizens to vote in federal elections,” Jean-Pierre said. “We’ve been clear about that from here. As it relates to that particular vote or that particular bill, I don’t have any updates from here to share … and we’ll update you as soon as — if we have anything if that changes.”

Perhaps most notably, the law grants the right to vote in local elections to international diplomats and other foreigners who work at government embassies, including China and Russia.

A similar proposal came earlier this year in New York City. At the time, former GOP Rep. and New York gubernatorial candidate Lee Zeldin expressed outrage over the desired legislation, arguing that it flies in the face of “a fundamental American principle and right… that is only U.S. citizens [should] vote in U.S. elections.”

A group of House Republicans voted to stop the D.C. law from taking effect, also being joined by 24 House Democrats.

Breitbart News reported that GOP Senators are now aiming to push through an equivalent proposal backed by Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) before the end of the 30-day review period on March 14. The outlet claimed that Congress can still exercise political power to cancel the legislation at any time as well as deny funding for any officials that attempt to impose it.

The Biden administration released a memo indicating that it supports granting the right to vote in U.S. elections to legal and illegal foreign nationals alike.

“For far too long, the more than 700,000 residents of Washington, DC, have been deprived of full representation in the U.S. Congress,” read the memo. “This taxation without representation and denial of self-governance is an affront to the democratic values on which our Nation was founded.”
