Comedian and actor Bill Burr roasted feminists and women’s sports in his latest Netflix special, “Bill Burr: Live at Red Rocks.”
Burr, known for being politically incorrect and edgy, joked that it is feminists, not men, who are to blame for the low viewership of women’s sports. The comedian also noted that in many cases, women’s sports are actually subsidized by men.
“You’re playing in a 20,000-seat arena — 1,500 people show up. That’s not a good night! The promoter lost his f***ing ass on that gig,” Burr said regarding U.S. women’s soccer, according to reporting from BroBible.
The 54-year-old comedian went on to roast the WNBA, calling out the league for its notorious poor attendance at games.
“Look at the WNBA: they have been playing in front of 300 to 400 people a night for a quarter of a century,” Burr said. “Not to mention, it’s a male-subsidized league. We gave you a league and none of you showed up.”
The comedian also called out feminists for not supporting their own side. If they want women to be paid equally to men when it comes to sports, they should be first in line to buy tickets for games, since that is how these women get paid.
“Where are all the feminists?” he joked. “That place should be packed with feminists — faces painted, wearing jerseys, going f***ing nuts like the guys do! … None of you went to the f***ing games.”
“You failed them,” Burr told feminists. “Not me. Not men — women failed the WNBA. Ladies, name your Top 5 WNBA players of all time. Name 5 WNBA teams. Name the WNBA team in your city. You can’t do it!”
According to a report in March from Sports website AS, NBA commissioner Adam Silver said in 2018 that the WNBA had lost approximately $10 million per year since its inception. Silver also noted that pay increases for female players will likely lead to even bigger subsidies coming from the league’s highly profitable male counterpart, the NBA.
Burr went on to discuss how female-driven media empires, such as the Kardashians and Real Housewives, are succeeding while women’s sports fail because that’s what women actually give their attention and money to.
“Meanwhile, you look at the Kardashians: they’re making billions,” the comedian said. “You look at those Real Housewives shows, they’re making money hand over fist! Because that’s what women are watching and the money listens. The money listens. You’d rather watch that s–t, Real Housewives, just a bunch of women tearing each other down.”
“That’s the message you send: we’d rather watch that than a bunch of women come together as a team and try to achieve a common goal,” the comedian added. “We’d rather watch them absolutely f—ing destroy each other! And then in the end, you come back and you yell at f—ing guys.”
