Former Secret Service agent Dan Bongino harshly criticized the federal law enforcement agency for what he described as an “apocalyptic security failure” that led to the July 13th assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.
Bongino participated in a panel discussion hosted by The Heritage Foundation, alongside Republican Congressmen Eli Crane (R-AZ), Chip Roy (R-TX), Matt Gaetz (R-FL), Andy Biggs (R-AZ), and Cory Mills (R-FL). During the discussion, Bongino expressed his outrage, calling it “disgusting” that Trump’s would-be assassin was able to get so close to potentially killing a former president.
“Listen, let’s just get right to the point: this was an apocalyptic security failure,” Bongino said. “A man was murdered in front of his family, three people were shot on live television, including President Trump in the head — who came within two millimeters of having his head explode on national television in front of millions of people. There’s no sugar-coating it, it’s no time for B.S.”
Bongino pointed out that the media seemed to have quickly lost interest in the story, despite the fact that the security failures on that day could have far-reaching implications for the future.
Bongino emphasized that his comments were not meant to criticize the men and women of the United States Secret Service who risk their lives daily. Instead, he pointed out that the real issues were rooted in institutional problems.
“They have a technology problem,” he explained, saying that the joke — which was no longer funny — was that the agency “relies on the technology of yesterday, tomorrow.”

Bongino argued that the Secret Service’s strategy to “do more with less” had fallen short, stating, “A 20-year-old criminal outsmarted them with a $40 drone … You’re telling me that’s ‘more with less’? That’s disgusting. That’s nothing with less.”
