Border Patrol Intercepts Saudi “Potential Terrorist” At Southern Border

The U.S. Border Patrol announced that a potential terrorist was apprehended in Arizona after illegally crossing the Mexican border to enter the country. The illegal migrant is connected to “subjects of interest” from war-torn Yemen.

The 21-year-old migrant was captured last Thursday attempting to enter the country at Yuma, according to the Border Patrol’s Yuma Sector Chief Agent Chris T. Clem. It is believed the suspect may have previously been inside the U.S. He was captured while wearing a jacket with an American flag patch and another patch from a volunteer medical corps in Oneida County, New York. The Central Oneida County Volunteer Ambulance Corps said that the suspect was not a member of their organization.

Rep. John Katko (R-NY) is the ranking Republican on the House Homeland Security Committee and issued a bulletin in October warning Congress that “known or suspected terrorists” making border crossings into the country at unprecedented levels.

Joe Biden’s Department of Homeland Security has denied Katko’s claim. The department’s counterterrorism coordinator, John Cohen, said that it is “factually inaccurate” to state that the open southern border sees a “significant” number of foreign terrorists entering the country. He went on to say that the number of “jihad terrorists” crossing from Mexico is “low in comparison” to the northern border and the “aviation infrastructure.”

Homeland Security’s messaging is further contradicted by the message delivered by retiring Border Patrol Chief Rodney Scott this summer. Scott said that the country faces a national security crisis at the southern border, with record entries in the Terrorist Screening Database.

In April, Border Patrol agents at the El Centro Sector apprehended two Yemeni men named on an international terror watch list. The Biden administration immediately removed the press release regarding the matter from public view, placing an “access denied” notice on the release. Before Washington sealed the report, national media outlets’ stories had already been picked up.

The latest arrest of a terror suspect entering Mexico across Biden’s open border could indicate others. Still, it is impossible to know, especially given the previous removal of official statements about terror arrests from public view. Unfortunately, Americans do not benefit from an aggressive and independent press under the current administration in many instances.
