CLOONEY CALLS to BIDEN
Clooney after he wrote a harsh piece urging President Biden to drop out of the 2024 contest.
Michael Douglas responded to Clooney’s piece on Wednesday’s episode of “The View,” saying, “I think it’s a valid point.”
“I’m really, really worried. It’s challenging, in particular, because of the big Democratic bench. They have a lot of powerful people,” Douglas remarked before implying that Biden made a mistake by agreeing to participate in the presidential debate last month. “My friend George Clooney has clearly expressed what many of us have been saying,” actor and filmmaker Rob Reiner said. “We appreciate and adore Joe Biden. We are grateful for what he has done for our nation. However, there is an existential threat to democracy, the “All in the Family” actress said on X. Someone younger is needed to retaliate. Joe Biden needs to resign. Also cautioning that it’s “time to pass the torch” is actress Mia Farrow. Otherwise, our democracy, the Senate, and the House will be lost.”
“If Joe doesn’t want to step down, I’ll vote for him. Naturally, but Farrow answered, ‘He’s losing. “We cannot EVER give our country to Trump.”
Clooney characterizes Biden as being different from the person he knew before the debate. Three weeks ago, they were together. So it wasn’t limited to that one evening,” Farrow went on. “My deep concern is for our democracy.” I’m hoping he selects a strong Democratic opponent who can succeed in building on Joe Biden’s outstanding record.” In a guest editorial that appeared in The New York Times last month, Clooney—who had just hosted the glamorous Biden fundraiser in Los Angeles—called for a new candidate on the Democratic ticket.
In a startling revelation, the Oscar-winning actor said he saw the same Biden that the nation did during the presidential debate.
“The Joe Biden I saw at the fund-raiser three weeks ago was not the Joe “huge F-ing deal” Biden of 2010.” This is heartbreaking to say. Not even the Joe Biden of 2020 was he. Clooney wrote, “He was the same man we all saw at the debate.”
At the Democratic National Convention, Clooney proposed replacing Biden with a different governor. He proposed choices such as California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker, Maryland Gov. Wes Moore, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, and Vice President Kamala Harris.
