Colorado Springs Shooter Evades Gun Law And Biden Pushes Assault Weapon Ban

President Joe Biden is not wasting any time pushing his gun control agenda after the Colorado Springs shooting. Biden declared “We need to enact an assault weapons ban” after admittedly stating that there is no known motive from the shooter yet. It is known that the shooter had a criminal background but he evaded “red flag” laws which would have prohibited his right to handle and own a firearm.

Five people were killed and 18 injured in the mass shooting at an LGBTQ+ nightclub in Colorado on Sunday night. 22-year-old Anderson Lee Aldrich is the suspect. Two emboldened patrons subdued Aldrich before more harm could be done. Colorado Springs police said Aldrich used a long rifle and two other firearms in the shooting.

President Biden has been pushing gun control agenda since 1994. This shooting is the perfect reason to bring it up again. Biden tweeted about his push for gun reform and the ban of assault rifles. He also stated that pushing gun reform will help the LGBTQ+ community. Unfortunately, Biden has a history of using tragedy and social movements as propaganda to promote his agenda.

Meanwhile, gun control advocates say Aldrich’s incidental attack on his mother in June 2021, is an example of a red flag law ignored. However, there is no public record that prosecutors moved forward with charges against Aldrich at that time. Without charges and prosecution authorities are not allowed to seize weapons and ammo even if the alleged incident did occur.

Despite widespread gun ownership, Colorado has one of the lowest rates of red flag usage as well. El Paso County, where the mass shooting occurred, is no exception. Only 3 out of every 100,000 adults in the states are issued a red flag surrender. Being that El Paso is a sanctuary for the 2nd amendment, it is not likely to change as long as Biden’s agenda is unsuccessful in the Senate.
