On Thursday, Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), a staunch critic of former President Donald Trump, stated that Americans will be shocked by the revelations of the Secret Service’s failures to protect Trump on July 13, 2024, when a would-be assassin nearly killed him at a Pennsylvania rally.
Blumenthal made these comments to reporters after Acting U.S. Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe provided new information during a closed-door meeting about the investigation into the assassination attempt.
“I think the American people are going to be shocked, astonished, and appalled by what we will report to them about the failures by the Secret Service in this assassination attempt on the former president,” Blumenthal said. “But I think they also ought to be appalled and astonished by the failure of the Department of Homeland Security to be more forthcoming, to be as candid and frank as it should be to them in terms of providing information.”

He said that investigators are urging DHS to provide the full truth and to hand over all related documents.
Blumenthal stated that he would not reveal the new information he had learned but indicated that it would “shock the American people” regarding the “lapses and lags in the protection provided that day and the breakdown in communication.”
Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) claimed in an interview this week that a female Secret Service agent, who was in charge of protecting former President Donald Trump during his July trip to Butler, Pennsylvania, where an assassin attempted to kill him, had failed key training exams when she joined the agency.
Hawley also alleged that the Biden-Harris DHS was pressuring the Secret Service not to cooperate with the investigation, calling it “outrageous.” Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) confirmed this week that DHS was not complying.
“One other thing, I’m told by people who are close to and have knowledge of the Secret Service’s own internal investigation that the Department of Homeland Security is leaning on the Secret Service not to comply with document requests to Congress,” the GOP senator said.
