FBI Director Patel has proposed an unconventional partnership with UFC trainers to enhance federal agents’ combat capabilities, following his personal experience with the training program, according to multiple insider sources.

The proposal emerged during Patel’s inaugural meeting with FBI field office supervisors on Wednesday. Sources present at the meeting revealed that the 45-year-old director’s interest in the collaboration was sparked by Dan Bongino, a former Secret Service agent and conservative commentator who has been nominated as FBI deputy director by Trump.

When approached for comment, the FBI remained silent on the matter, while a UFC representative stated they had no knowledge of any potential training arrangement with the bureau.

In his first week as director, Patel has already implemented significant changes, including the relocation of 1,500 FBI personnel from Washington to various field offices nationwide. During Wednesday’s meeting, he expressed his commitment to further decentralizing headquarters staff.

At his confirmation proceedings, Patel committed to reforming the bureau rather than dismantling it, despite calls from Trump supporters for the FBI’s dissolution following the 2022 Mar-a-Lago search. He stated, “Those numbers need to be cut in half immediately, and the public will regain trust in the FBI and law enforcement.”

However, the UFC training proposal has met with skepticism from some within the bureau, who view it as unrealistic. A former Justice Department official criticized the plan, stating, “There is training the FBI receives in physical altercations. If Kash Patel believed that should be beefed up, the answer is not to go to Donald Trump’s best friend who runs the UFC. It’s clearly motivated by the glitz and glamour show, and Trump’s friend.”
