Former Obama Official Claims Conservatives Dominate Media

Former President Barack Obama’s communications director made statements Monday that are too outlandish even for a satirical headline. Dan Pfeiffer said, with a straight face, that Republicans “dwarf” Democratic media outlets in the U.S.

To paraphrase the astonished diner in the classic “When Harry Met Sally” restaurant scene, “I’ll have what he’s having.”

Even if Democrats had a perfect message to disperse, Pfeiffer claims in his new book that it “wouldn’t matter much.” This is because of the iron grip conservatives have on disseminating information.

This claim is so ludicrous it’s tough to find a place to start tearing it apart — but let’s try. Has Mr. Pfeiffer ever heard of CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, or NPR? If you catch them in the right mood, these networks make the Soviet-era Pravda appear “fair and balanced.”

Speaking of which, the conservative side has Fox News. For major outlets, that’s the entire list.

All Mr. Pfeiffer needs to know about social media platforms is the prospect that one — just one — might be owned by a quasi-conservative sent journalists into a frenzy. Elon Musk’s bid to purchase Twitter heralds the end of Western civilization if leftists are to be believed.

Nevermind that Chinese-owned TikTok is the dominant media for young Americans and that the communist nation collects “face-prints” of U.S. users. Someone even considering voting Republican owning one social media platform is too dangerous to be allowed.

What about newspapers? There’s the New York Times, Washington Post, LA Times, Chicago Tribune, etc. etc. Pick a day and glance at any of their editorial pages, and the myth of conservative dominance of media outlets disappears like springtime snow.

Mr. Pfeiffer should note the “newspaper of record,” the New York Times, has not endorsed a GOP candidate for the White House since Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1956. Seventeen presidential elections ago. Exactly one state — and the Times — chose Mondale over Reagan in ‘84.

Reasonable people disagree on many things, but claiming Republicans have a stranglehold on American media is beyond ludicrous. The naked truth the left doesn’t want to admit is their outrage that conservatives have ANY voice, ANY outlet that does not toe the liberal line.
