Harris Threatens Millions of Automotive Jobs by Eliminating Gas-Powered Cars by 2035

Gas-Powered Auto BAN to HURT MILLIONS

Even though this would affect millions of American automotive jobs, Vice President Kamala Harris, a Democrat running for president, has advocated to phase out gas-powered cars by 2035 and switch entirely to electric vehicles (EVs).

While competing in the 2020 Democratic primary for president, Harris outlined her green platform, including her intention to ban gas-powered automobile sales by 2035 and make sure that Americans could only buy EVs when shopping for a new vehicle.

Harris’s plan states, as first reported by Thomas Catenacci of the Washington Free Beacon, “We will ensure that 50 percent of all new passenger vehicles sold are zero-emission by 2030, and 100 percent are zero-emission by 2035.”

This will require a new and improved “cash for clunkers” program with incentives for cars to be replaced with zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) manufactured in America and extra, targeted assistance, for low and middle-income families. This will establish American auto innovation and manufacturing as the best in the world for ZEVs.

Harris also stated that she intended to mandate “that all new buildings be carbon-neutral by 2030” and “that all new buses be zero-emission by 2030.”

Harris wants to ensure that by 2032, the majority of new automobiles produced and sold in the US market be electric or hybrid vehicles. This mandate is even more extreme than Biden’s.

There is a chance that both EV regulations may eliminate millions of auto jobs in America, including those held by United Auto Workers (UAW) members. Experts point out that EVs take a lot less labor to construct than conventional gas-powered vehicles.

China, which possesses roughly 70 percent of the world’s lithium, 95 percent of manganese, 73 percent of cobalt, 70 percent of graphite, and 63 percent of nickel – the raw minerals required to make batteries for EVs — would also benefit greatly from such EV requirements.

In an effort to win over the country’s auto workers, former President Donald Trump and his running partner, Senator JD Vance (R-OH), have promised to eliminate EV mandates “on day one,” making sure that the auto industry in the United States is not coerced into a green energy transition that the government deems necessary.
