Rep. Mike Lawler, a New York Republican, made an appearance on Newsmax’s “Wake Up America” where he discussed the implications of President Biden’s recent pardon of his son Hunter. The congressman emphasized that despite the presidential pardon, Hunter Biden will likely face congressional subpoenas regarding his business activities, noting that he can no longer invoke Fifth Amendment protections.
The pardon, issued over the weekend, encompasses Hunter Biden’s weapons charges and tax evasion convictions, along with any potential federal offenses dating back to 2014. However, Lawler maintained that numerous questions surrounding the Biden family’s financial dealings remain unanswered.
"Obviously, [Joe Biden] lied to the American people when he said he was not going to pardon his son. But if anyone was truly surprised by this, they were living under a rock."

During his television appearance, Lawler highlighted concerns about foreign funds flowing into the Biden family, pointing to $24 million that was allegedly channeled through 20 different shell companies. He specifically mentioned that some of these funds eventually reached Joe Biden through Jim and Sarah Biden’s bank accounts.
Taking to social media platform X, Lawler posted, “The truth: the Biden family was paid millions of dollars by foreign entities; Biden himself received payments disguised as loans; the family used shell companies to hide the transactions and evade taxes; and they lied about it all. This is why [Hunter] was pardoned covering 11 years.”
“He basically admits that his Department of Justice has been politicized and weaponized,” says Rep. Mike Lawler about President Biden’s pardon of Hunter. “If Joe Biden felt so strongly about this with regards to his son … then he should have recognized the catastrophe of… pic.twitter.com/AvE1UEYbwj

In conversation with host Sharla McBride, Lawler criticized the timing and nature of the pardon, particularly calling out what he viewed as hypocrisy from Democrats. He referenced their previous criticism of Republicans as threats to democracy, contrasting it with President Biden’s decision to pardon his son for multiple criminal convictions, including tax evasion.
