Civilians KILLED with EXPLOSIVES
Following years of searching for a prominent Hamas terrorist, Israeli soldiers killed numerous bystanders when they dropped a big payload of bombs on his probable location on Saturday, according to The Wall Street Journal.
In an effort to assassinate Mohammed Deif, the head of Hamas’ military, the Israeli air force fired eight 2,000-pound bombs on a southern Gazan compound, killing dozens of civilians in the process, according to the Wall Street Journal. Before its most recent operation, Israel had made seven unsuccessful attempts to kill Deif. Despite ongoing investigations at the bomb site, military sources are certain that Deif has been eliminated.
According to Scott Anderson, the director of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency based in Gaza, “I witnessed some of the most horrific scenes I have seen in my nine months in Gaza,” the Wall Street Journal said. More than 90 people were reported dead and 300 injured in the bombing, including women and children, according to Gaza’s health authorities, who are under Hamas control and usually do not distinguish between civilian and military losses.
According to Israeli sources, the strike claimed the lives of multiple Hamas members, as reported by the WSJ. Dief’s death from the bombing is denied by Hamas.
According to the WSJ, Israeli officials believe Deif played a significant role in planning the terrorist strikes on October 7 that claimed 1,200 lives in Israel.
According to the WSJ, there was a market, a water source, and a soup kitchen that served refugees in the vicinity of the property. Although Israeli soldiers admitted that civilians lived in the area they struck, they blamed Hamas for the deaths since the group was hiding among the populace.
Although the US is still shipping 500-pound bombs to Israel, President Joe Biden stopped the delivery of 2,000-pound bombs in May due to worries about the collateral damage they may inflict, according to The Times of Israel. Referring to the 2,000-pound explosives, Biden said on CNN in an interview that “Civilians have been killed in Gaza as a consequence of those bombs and other ways in which they go after population centers.”
Approximately 100 yards from the bomb location, Mahmoud Abu Amer stated he “saw people falling in front of me” and compared the explosion to “like a fiery belt.”
