Joe Biden Expose Democrats

President Joe Biden acknowledged in an interview aired on CBS News that Democrats had urged him to withdraw from his reelection bid due to concerns about down-ballot races.

Biden announced his decision to step out of the 2024 presidential race in a letter posted on X on July 21, roughly three weeks after a challenging debate performance against Republican nominee Donald Trump.

In the weeks leading up to Biden’s announcement, numerous reports emerged about private meetings among top Democrats—including House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and former President Barack Obama—discussing the possibility of urging Biden to step aside over worries about the party’s future.

In his conversation with CBS News chief election and campaign correspondent Robert Costa, Biden noted that polls between him and Trump were “neck-and-neck.” While Biden believed the race would have been “down to the wire,” Trump had gained significant momentum in swing states like Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin, even threatening traditionally Democratic strongholds like New York and Virginia.

“Look, the polls we had showed that it was a neck-and-neck race. It would’ve been down to the wire,” Biden said. “But what happened was, a number of my Democratic colleagues in the House and the Senate thought that I was gonna hurt them in their races. And I was concerned if I stayed in the race, that would be the topic. You’d be interviewing me about why did Nancy Pelosi say, why did so and so… and I thought it’d be a real distraction.”

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) and Rep. Jaime Raskin (D-MD) —both close allies of Nancy Pelosi— publicly urged Biden to step aside just days before he made his decision. Despite these connections, Pelosi maintained in an interview with CBS News’s “60 Minutes” that she “did not call one person” regarding Biden’s decision to withdraw.
