Kamala Harris Accused of Staff Maltreatment As California AG

Vice President and presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris has been accused of constantly berating her staff. During her tenure as California Attorney General from 2011-2017, Harris allegedly mistreated her staff, frequently enforcing strict rules on them.

According to an op-ed by Gregory McAteer’s father, Terry McAteer, Harris’s behavior left staff in complete fear. Gregory interned for Harris for a month and shared his experiences with his father.

According to the New York Post, the op-ed titled “Another Side to Kamala Harris” was written in 2019 by Terry McAteer and published in the California newspaper “The Union”.

McAteer revealed that his son approved the article’s claims before publishing with reasons that he is willing to put his own integrity on the line because the truth is important to him.

The article claims that Harris would yell at her staff and would not allow low-level staff to address her or make eye contact. In addition, staff were required to stand and greet Harris every morning with the phrase “Good morning, general,” and were too intimidated to introduce themselves to her.

“Sure, the job is stressful, and we’ve all dealt with an angry boss in our lives, but there is another side of Kamala Harris which the general public does not know,” McAteer said.

McAteer’s son also revealed that his son was never directly addressed by Harris during the month he worked for her. Despite the office consisting of only about 20 staffers, no one introduced him to Harris as they were too intimidated to do so.

McAteer added that Harris’s behavior did not demonstrate respect for her staff or decent leadership skills. He further emphasized the importance of integrity and character in politicians.

McAteer wrote that while he approved of Harris’s work as Attorney General, her treatment towards staff was disappointing.

“A person’s character is probably one of the most important attributes for someone wanting to obtain the office of president,” McAteer continued. “I don’t know about you, but this is not the workplace of someone who respects her staff, she didn’t show the quality of leadership skills or even being a decent boss.”
