Khaled Meshaal Likely to Be New Hamas Leader

NEW Hamas Leader Likely Named SOON

The person who was supposed to be named the next top political leader after the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh had been poisoned by Israeli agents in the past, and he only survived after Israel was forced to hand over the antidote.

According to Reuters, Hamas sources have stated that Khaled Meshaal is the leading candidate to take command of the organization after Haniyeh was killed in what appears to be an airstrike that Iran has blamed on Israel.

Meshaal, who is now 68 years old, had previously held the position of Hamas’ exiled leader in the 1990s. His name became well-known all around the world because Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had ordered a hit on him.

On September 25th, 1997 a large number of Israeli agents surrounded Meshaal on the street immediately outside his office in Amman, the capital of Jordan, and held a device to Mashaal’s left ear that transmitted a fast-acting poison.

As a result of the attempted murder, Jordan’s King became so incensed that he threatened to withdraw from a peace pact with Netanyahu and ordered to execute the detained operatives if Israel did not hand over the antidote. King Hussein feared that the death of a Hamas leader would trigger riots in his kingdom, perhaps even a civil war. Netanyahu refused, and the incident quickly grew in political significance. U.S. President Bill Clinton intervened and compelled Netanyahu to turn over the antidote.

With Meshaal continuing to serve as a member of Hamas’ Politburo, the 15-person board that administers Gaza from outside, Israel agreed to the requirements. Meshaal’s position on the board will remain unchanged.

In the past, Meshaal has lauded the horrible terrorist attack that took place on October 7 as evidence that Hamas is capable of achieving its ultimate objective of eradicating Israel. He has claimed that Hamas is capable of rejecting any suggestions for a two-state solution between Israelis and Palestinians.

Hamas sources informed Reuters that senior official Khalil al-Hayya, another member of the Politburo who served as the deputy leader in Gaza, is also a favorite to succeed Haniyeh. Meshaal is also a candidate for the position of leader of the Palestinian Palestinian Authority.

Al-Hayya has been serving as the leader of the negotiations that are now taking place between Israel and Hamas.
