During his late-night show, ABC host Jimmy Kimmel attempted to downplay President Biden’s recent decision to pardon his son Hunter, suggesting the president might have forgotten his earlier promise not to issue such a pardon.
In his Monday night monologue, Kimmel addressed the controversial pardon with humor, stating, “Yes, Joe Biden did say he wasn’t going to pardon Hunter, but to be fair there’s a very good chance he doesn’t remember saying that.”

The host continued his comedic take on the situation, remarking, “No one has more to be thankful for this weekend than Hunter Biden. I am not a presidential historian, but I believe this is the first time a US president has pardoned both his son and a turkey in the same week.”
Addressing Biden’s official statement on the matter, Kimmel referenced the president’s claims about political motivation and unfair prosecution, quipping, “In other words, the Biden presidency has now entered the ‘grandpa doesn’t give a damn about you’ stage.”
Fellow late-night host Stephen Colbert also approached the topic with levity, commenting that while he wasn’t certain about the pardon’s appropriateness, Biden had “certainly earned that ‘World’s Greatest Dad’ mug.”

The pardon follows Hunter Biden’s statement acknowledging his “mistakes” during his struggles with addiction, which he claimed were “exploited to publicly humiliate and shame me and my family for political sport.”
This development marks a significant reversal from President Biden’s previous public stance against pardoning his son. Notably, Hunter Biden had appeared on Kimmel’s show in 2021 while promoting his book.
