Mitch McConnell, the former Senate Republican Leader, experienced a fall during a Republican staff luncheon on Tuesday, requiring immediate medical attention.

According to a spokesperson for McConnell, the incident occurred as he was leaving the lunch gathering, resulting in a minor facial cut and wrist sprain. “He sustained a minor cut to the face and sprained his wrist,” the aide stated. “He has been cleared to resume his schedule.”

The 82-year-old senator’s health has been a subject of concern previously. Last year, he made headlines when he appeared to freeze during several public appearances, raising questions about his well-being.

Senate GOP Leader John Thune addressed the incident during a press briefing, confirming McConnell’s return to his office. “He is fine, he’s in his office, and any other questions about Sen. McConnell I’ll refer to staff,” Thune remarked.

This incident adds to a series of health-related concerns surrounding McConnell. In 2023, he required treatment for a concussion following a fall at a Washington, D.C. hotel, with reports indicating he had experienced multiple falls throughout that year.
