A transgender punk musician sparked controversy at Sen. Bernie Sanders’ Wisconsin rally by performing an explicit anti-religious song that drew both praise and condemnation from different segments of the public.

Laura Jane Grace, who transitioned in 2012, opened the rally with a provocative song titled “Your God (God’s D**k),” which contains explicitly sexual lyrics targeting religious beliefs.

The performer’s social media accounts showcase both the complete version of the song and footage from the rally performance. Following the event, Grace expressed gratitude to Sanders on Instagram, writing “Thank you for having me in Kenosha last night @sensanders I have so much respect for everything you’re trying to do right now.”

The performance generated polarized reactions across social media platforms. Grace’s supporters celebrated the bold statement, with fans praising it as a necessary protest song for current times. One enthusiast commented, “This is so badass, and just what we need right now. Congrats, Laura.” Another wrote, “YOU ARE CRAZY! I LOVE IT! THAT SONG AT A RALLY? HELL YES!”

However, conservative voices strongly criticized the performance. Robby Starbuck posted on X, “this is who the Democrats are now. Pure evil. Other lyrics are somehow even more grotesque and anti-Christian. These people are insane.” Similarly, commentator Todd Starnes described it as “one of the most profane and disgraceful songs about Christianity and Almighty God. It was utter garbage.”

The performance took place during Sanders’ “Fighting Oligarchy: Where We Go from Here” tour, which drew approximately 3,500 attendees and focuses on opposing what the senator terms Trump’s “tyrannical administration.”
