A newly hired substitute teacher in New Mexico faces serious legal consequences after allegations of inappropriate conduct with a minor student. Michaela Ford, 30, was arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including criminal sexual penetration and sexual contact with a minor.
The incident came to light when a witness observed Ford kissing an underage student near Estancia’s middle and high schools on November 6. According to KOAT-TV, Ford reportedly pleaded with the school principal to keep the incident from her husband.

Following these allegations, investigators uncovered surveillance footage documenting the encounter between Ford and the student. The Estancia Municipal School District released a statement expressing their distress over the situation, saying: “The district is disturbed to learn of the allegations made against a former substitute teacher in the district, who was arrested.”
The statement continued: “The district is working closely in cooperation with law enforcement to ensure that a full investigation is conducted. The safety of our students is our highest priority. The district follows all laws and policies with regards to the hiring of employees, including a comprehensive background check.”

Ford, who had been employed at Estancia High School for less than a month, was immediately removed from contact with students when the accusations surfaced. She is currently being held at the Torrance County Detention Facility.
The district emphasized their commitment to supporting affected students, stating: “As this matter has just come to light, full details are not known. All information related to this matter will remain confidential in order to protect our students. This district takes pride in being a tight-knit and caring community of learners. We will continue to take all necessary steps to protect student safety.”
