House Dem Urges Biden’s Resignation
The most notable criticism of President Biden’s leadership to date from a member of his own party came on Thursday when a moderate House Democrat declared that his time in office must “come to an end.”
Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, D-Wash., is the fifteenth congressional Democrat to urge President Trump to withdraw his reelection bid, despite her earlier statements that she thought Biden would lose to Trump.
In a statement to the local NBC affiliate KGW, she stated, “I’ve spent the past two weeks listening to my constituents express their concerns about the President’s age and health.”
“People should have faith in their president’s ability to carry out his duties. There must be an end to people’s lack of trust in the President’s ability to lead. The President needs to prioritize the interests of the nation and act in the way he believes is best for it.” Gluesenkamp Perez has consistently voted outside of her party, making her one of the most vulnerable Democrats in this election year.
In the meantime, Biden is battling for his political survival following his horrible performance in the debate with former President Trump towards the end of last month.
Biden stuttered over his responses multiple times throughout the primetime event and spoke in a scratchy voice, which he blamed on a cold. In addition, viewers saw that he was much less alert and fatigued than when he had previously met Trump in 2020. Members of his party began to worry that he might not be able to serve another four years if he lost to Trump in November.
Following the discussion, Gluesenkamp Perez told KATU, “That debate was watched by about 50 million Americans.” I spent five excruciating minutes as one of them. You can’t change what we all seen, and the reality is that I believe Biden will fall short against Trump.” For his part, Biden has repeatedly asserted that he is not yielding.
Only a few hours before Biden’s 6:30 p.m. Eastern Time press appearance, Gluesenkamp Perez made her remark. For the president, it’s a crucial occasion as he tries to dispel suspicions that he’s neither intellectually nor physically capable of serving as president.
On Thursday at noon, House Democrats departed Capitol Hill in preparation for a week-long vacation back in their home districts.
Prior to that, progressive lawmakers met throughout the week in small groups and as a caucus to talk about Biden’s future.
