Left-wing commentator Charlamagne Tha God, whose real name is Lenard Larry McKelvey, recently stated that Vice President Kamala Harris chose Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate because she needed a “DEI hire.”
McKelvey shared these thoughts during a Sunday interview with Jonathan Karl on ABC News’ “This Week” while discussing the 2024 presidential election.
“I just found out about him over the last couple of weeks,” McKelvey admitted. “At first, I was a little bit disappointed like I knew she — we knew she needed a DEI hire, right?”

Karl then asked, “So Tim Walz is the DEI hire on this ticket? Diversity, equity, inclusion.”
“Absolutely,” McKelvey confirmed. “She needed a white male to make America comfortable. It is what it is. No need for us to, you know, act crazy about it. You know what it is.”

McKelvey also made the claim that Harris held “very moderate” policy positions, despite her being ranked as the most far-left U.S. Senator.
He went on to say that Harris needs to be more visible, stop avoiding public appearances out of fear, and engage in more interviews and press conferences.
“I feel like she should be any and everywhere, you know, having these conversations,” he emphasized. “I don’t — I truly don’t know why she hasn’t, you know, done any interviews yet because that’s the only reason Donald Trump is still, you know, sucking the — sucking the air out of the headlines, because he keeps headlines going, like he’s everywhere. You saw him at the National Association for Black Journalists Convention. You saw him on with Adin Ross. He’s going to be on with Elon Musk. He’s always calling in to conservative talk radio.”
