Former President Donald Trump and his one-time campaign ally, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R), were involved in a war of words across Truth Social and Twitter following Christie’s comment on ABC’s “This Week.”
During his appearance on the show, Christie was asked if he thought Trump could defeat President Joe Biden in 2024. Christie replied, saying he didn’t think so. Christie suggested that the reason why no Republican is coming to run against Trump was that few want to announce their intention to run against the former president.
“Nobody sees any imperative to do it,” Christie said. “First of all, who wants to be the first in the pool with Donald Trump, right? When he has no one else to shoot at and his whole life is about shooting at people. Why do you want to necessarily be the first in the pool to do that?”
Republican 2024 hopefuls haven’t launched bids against former Pres. Trump yet because “no one sees any imperative to do it,” @GovChristie tells @JonKarl.

Christie’s comments drew an angry response from Trump, who labeled the former New Jersey governor “sloppy Chris Christie” and a “failed former governor.” Trump added that Christie spent the entirety of his last year in office campaigning in New Hampshire for the 2016 Republican Nomination for President, only to fail.

“Much like his term in office, where he left with an Approval Rating of just 9%, his Presidential campaign was a complete disaster, Trump said. He endorsed me the following day, later recommended Chris Wray for the FBI (how did that work out?), went down in flames, and then was SALVAGED by ABC FAKE NEWS. I never wanted him!”
I’m the target of Donald Trump’s new tantrum. None of his lies about me today bothered him when he asked me to prep him for every general election debate or offered me 3 different cabinet posts. He’s the only man to lose to Biden outside Delaware. That loss to Joe still stings.
