Former federal prosecutor Andrew McCarthy has suggested that a “clemency package” involving both President-elect Donald Trump and Hunter Biden might be in the works. McCarthy shared his thoughts on the potential development during an appearance on “Fox and Friends.”

According to McCarthy, Special Counsel Jack Smith is reportedly winding down his cases against Trump, which include allegations of mishandling classified material and challenging the 2020 election results. This move, McCarthy believes, could pave the way for President Joe Biden to pardon his son, Hunter, who faces federal gun and tax charges.

McCarthy explained that a pardon for Hunter Biden alone might not be well-received by the public, especially given President Biden’s previous assurances against such action. However, he suggested that a broader clemency package could make the situation more acceptable.

“I think it goes down easier for the country if it’s kind of like a clemency package where the Biden-Harris Justice Department dismisses the two cases against former President Trump, President-elect Trump, because they can’t be prosecuted at this point anyhow,” McCarthy stated.

He further speculated that this approach could send a message to progressive prosecutors at the state level, signaling an end to what he termed “lawfare,” which he believes has been detrimental to the Democrats in the recent election.

“Fox and Friends” co-host Steve Doocy concurred, suggesting that Biden pardoning Trump could make a pardon for Hunter Biden more acceptable to the public.

McCarthy also highlighted the potential benefits of dismissing the cases at the Justice Department level rather than issuing a pardon. He argued that this approach would avoid any implication of guilt on Trump’s part and might face less resistance from Judge Chutkan, who is overseeing one of the cases against the former president.

As the political landscape continues to evolve, the possibility of a comprehensive clemency package remains a topic of speculation and discussion among legal experts and political commentators.
