During a “Meet the Press” interview aired Sunday, host Kristen Welker questioned President-elect Donald Trump about his intentions regarding FBI Director Christopher Wray’s position.
The inquiry came after Trump’s November 30 nomination of Kash Patel as FBI director, despite Wray’s ongoing appointment from Trump’s first term. When asked about potentially firing Wray, Trump expressed his dissatisfaction.

“Well, I can’t say I’m thrilled with him. He invaded my home — I’m suing the country over it,” Trump responded. “He invaded Mar-a-Lago.”
The president-elect referenced the FBI’s August 2022 raid of his Mar-a-Lago estate concerning classified documents, a case later dismissed due to questions over special counsel Jack Smith’s appointment legitimacy.
Addressing Welker, Trump voiced concerns about rising crime rates and immigration issues, specifically mentioning migrants from prisons and mental institutions entering the country.
Maintaining a firmer tone, Trump added, “I don’t want to be Joe Biden and give you an answer and then go the exact opposite,” alluding to Biden’s recent pardon of his son Hunter despite previous statements against such action.

Trump continued expressing his displeasure with Wray, particularly regarding the FBI director’s response to the July assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania. “You take a look at what’s happened. And then when I was shot in the ear, he said, ‘Oh, maybe it was shrapnel.’ Where’s the shrapnel coming from?” Trump questioned. “Is it coming from heaven? I don’t think so.”
When pressed about Wray’s potential replacement by Patel, Trump responded indirectly, suggesting that Patel’s appointment would naturally lead to someone’s departure.
