President-elect Donald Trump made a powerful statement of support for House Speaker Mike Johnson during his visit to Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, coinciding with an upcoming internal party leadership vote.

During his address to House Republicans, Trump explicitly endorsed Johnson’s leadership, declaring his unwavering support according to Politico’s report: “I am with him [Johnson] all the way.”

Following his recent election victory, Trump combined the Republican conference meeting with a scheduled White House visit to meet President Joe Biden.

The Republican Party has secured a House majority, with Decision Desk HQ reporting current standings at 219-211, and five races pending final results.

During the conference, Trump engaged directly with Johnson, inquiring about the potential final seat count, questioning whether they would gain “five or four” additional seats.

Addressing the narrow majority, Trump remarked: “Doesn’t matter. We got used to one for a little while. When you can get used to one, you can get used to anything.”

The president-elect expressed gratitude to his fellow Republicans, stating: “I just want to thank everybody. You’ve been incredible. We worked with a lot of you to get you in. And you helped me, and you helped me, too.”

His visit also included key administrative appointments, selecting Representative Elise Stefanik for the position of U.N. Ambassador and Representative Mike Waltz as national security adviser.
