Trump wants old rules back for household appliances

Former President Trump has directed the immediate reversal of Biden administration’s environmental regulations on household appliances, calling for a return to his previous administration’s standards.

The Biden-era regulations imposed strict climate requirements on various household appliances, including washing machines, dishwashers, and gas stoves, which industry experts claimed could result in costlier and less efficient alternatives.

Through a Truth Social announcement, Trump instructed EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin to revoke Biden’s climate mandates and restore his administration’s environmental policies.

“I am hereby instructing Secretary Lee Zeldin to immediately go back to my Environmental Orders, which were terminated by Crooked Joe Biden, on Water Standards and Flow pertaining to SINKS, SHOWERS, TOILETS, WASHING MACHINES, DISHWASHERS, etc., and to likewise go back to the common sense standards on LIGHTBULBS, that were put in place by the Trump Administration, but terminated by Crooked Joe,” Trump wrote. “I look forward to signing these Orders. THANK YOU!!!”

This action follows Trump’s recent executive order challenging another Biden climate initiative. He reversed a federal policy moving away from plastic straws, dismissing paper alternatives as ineffective.

“It’s a ridiculous situation,” the president said. “We’re going back to plastic straws.”

The executive order will examine federal purchasing policies limiting plastic straws and targets Biden’s plan to eliminate single-use plastics from federal food service by 2027 and all federal operations by 2035.

While environmental advocates warn about plastic straws’ impact on marine ecosystems, Trump expressed skepticism about their environmental effects.

“I don’t think that plastic is going to affect the shark very much as they’re … munching their way through the ocean,” he said.
