A recent social media controversy emerged when a post claimed Elon Musk responded dismissively to Don Lemon and The Guardian’s departure announcements from X. According to the viral post, Musk allegedly wrote, “X is not an airport, you don’t have to announce your departure.”
However, investigations reveal this claim to be false. No credible media outlets have reported such a tweet from Musk, and a thorough search of his X account shows no evidence of this statement. The viral quote actually originated from a parody account called Not Jerome Powell, whose bio explicitly states: “Not associated with the Federal Reserve. Financial Parody and sarcasm, control of the world’s liquidity. Not investment advice.”
Just leave.

While The Guardian has indeed announced its withdrawal from X, citing concerns over platform content, their decision involves deactivating more than 80 official accounts. The media organization plans to cease posting on the platform entirely.

This incident adds to a growing list of fabricated Musk posts circulating online. Similar fact-checking efforts were recently required to debunk another false claim suggesting Musk had posted an image mocking Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s “last dollar.”
