Judge Sharply Criticizes Willis

A county judge sharply criticized Fulton County, Georgia District Attorney Fani Willis (D) this week for her conduct surrounding the charges against former President Donald Trump. Willis was given the choice of being dismissed from the prosecution or having her alleged affair partner Nathan Wade leave the case, which he did.

Fulton County Judge Scott McAfee wrote that Willis and Wade’s actions had an “appearance of impropriety.” Willis was given the choice of removing herself or Wade from the case.

“As the case moves forward, reasonable members of the public could easily be left to wonder whether the financial exchanges have continued resulting in some form of benefit to the District Attorney, or even whether the romantic relationship has resumed,” the judge wrote. “As long as Wade remains on the case, this unnecessary perception will persist.”

Wade allegedly paid for expensive trips and activities for Willis using money she paid him to serve as special counsel.

The decision followed weeks of courtroom activity surrounding Willis’ hiring of Wade and details about their alleged relationship.

In particular, Willis’ conduct surrounding Wade and the Trump case drew considerable criticism from Republicans. Willis was accused of unethical actions in hiring her former lover at a high salary, which was allegedly higher than those of similar qualifications and positions.

Furthermore, Willis’ actions appear to have placed a shadow over her wider investigation into Trump and the co-defendants she accused of improperly attempting to sway the 2020 election. Much of the information surrounding the affair came from one of Trump’s codefendants.

The court decision and Wade’s resignation drew the attention of former President Donald Trump. On social media Friday Trump wrote that Wade “resigned in disgrace.” The former president accused the pair of attempting to “persecute TRUMP for Crooked Joe Biden and his Department of Injustice, for purposes of Election Interference and living the life of the Rich & Famous. This is the equivalent of Deranged Jack Smith getting “canned,” BIG STUFF, something which should happen in the not too distant future!!!”
