Lara Trump Announces RNC Campaign

Lara Trump announced this week that she was seeking the position of co-chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC) following a major shakeup in the party’s leadership. The elevation of former President Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law could solidify his hold over the party ahead of November’s federal election.

Trump’s daughter-in-law announced her candidacy on social media, endorsing North Carolina GOP Chair Michael Whatley, who is seeking the position of chair of the national party. Lara Trump said that it would be an honor “to work along side him for the future of this country.”

“I promise you that I will be laser-focused on election integrity, voter turn out and ensuring every dollar spent goes towards winning!” she wrote.

The announcement of her candidacy also came after the former president endorsed both her and Whatley’s bids.

The new slate is seeking to replace outgoing RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel, who announced her resignation after seven years in the position. McDaniel was unpopular in some segments of the Republican Party, citing recent weak performances among some candidates in recent congressional races.

Trump had supported a change at the top of the party after endorsing McDaniel for a second term. McDaniel stepped down after the results of last week’s South Carolina primary.

Lara Trump also said that she was “proud” to have the endorsement of her father-in-law and that she understood “the fundamental importance of this role.”

“Lara is an extremely talented communicator and is dedicated to all that MAGA stands for,” Trump wrote. “She has told me she wants to accept this challenge and would be GREAT!”

The potential incoming RNC co-chair stated that her goal was to bring every penny donated to the committee to the former president’s November campaign.

The former president also endorsed his senior campaign adviser Chris LaCivita in the RNC’s number three role as chief operating officer.

“Chris will manage the RNC’s day-to-day operations so it will become a fighting machine for 2024 and use all the tools available to win for the American people,” he wrote.
