Markle Not Attending Coronation Over Royal Family’s ‘Unconscious Bias’

Meghan Markle will reportedly not attend the coronation of King Charles III over a racial “unconscious bias.”

The decision comes after confirmation that Markle would remain in California instead of attending the event. Markle justified her decision by saying she wants to celebrate her son’s birthday, which falls on the same day as the event.

According to The Telegraph, however, one of the reasons Markle is skipping Charles’ coronation is because of an argument she had with a senior U.K. royal executive, where the executive allegedly expressed concern that Markle’s children could have dark skin due to her African heritage.

Markle reportedly wrote to Charles complaining about an “unconscious bias” among the family. Her letter, described as being “warm,” failed to resolve the issues Markle has with the family, which, as a result, is said to have further weakened relations between her and her in-laws to an all-time low.

The British Royal family is said to be relieved over Markle’s decision not to attend the coronation.

On April 12, 2023, Buckingham Palace confirmed that Prince Harry would attend his father’s coronation while his wife would remain at the couple’s California home with their two young children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

“I think there is a quiet relief that Meghan isn’t coming because it avoids so many situations,” True Royalty TV co-founder Nick Bullen told Fox News Digital.

“It avoids all cameras being trained on Meghan when it’s the king’s day. People would be waiting to see what their reactions are. Do people give side eye to each other in the front row? I think the fact that she isn’t coming is a good thing. The fact that [Prince Harry] is coming is a good thing,” Bullen added.

Bullen has won several awards for producing programs about the British Royal family. He has worked closely with the king for approximately 10 years.

According to Bullen, sources told him that “everyone is really pleased that Harry’s coming to the coronation.” He said Markle’s appearance would only have created an awkward feeling between the family members.

“It’s definitely better that Harry’s flying solo because it avoids any awkward moments with family members,” Bullen explained.

“But I think Meghan not coming makes it easier for everybody because it doesn’t become ‘The Meghan Show,’” Bullen continued. “And even if Meghan didn’t want it to be ‘The Meghan Show,’ she’s bright enough to realize that if she turns up, cameras will be trained on her to see how she’s reacting.”

Bullen added that he isn’t surprised Markle decided not to attend the coronation. He said that if “Meghan had been in the room, it would’ve been more difficult for everybody.”
