White House officials reportedly met with an attorney for Hunter Biden right before the president’s son got out of testifying before Congress. The news comes as Republicans expand their investigations into Hunter Biden and his family’s business dealings and the First Son faces multiple federal felony charges.
The meeting allegedly occurred in December right before the president’s son defied a congressional subpoena. Hunter Biden’s attorney Abbe Lowell met with Jill Biden’s aide Anthony Bernal, according to White House visitor logs.
Lowell also met with President Joe Biden later the same day.
Hunter Biden was called to testify before Congress late last year but refused to do so unless the questioning was done in public session. Instead of attending the congressional hearing, the president’s son instead held a press event outside the steps of the U.S. Capitol, in which he claimed that his father did nothing wrong.

Bernal has been a part of the congressional investigation, with House Republicans discovering that he accessed classified material placed in the Penn Biden Center later seized by law enforcement.
House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. James Comer (R-TN) called for the White House to “provide information about whether President Biden sought to influence or obstruct our investigation by preventing, discouraging or dissuading his son from complying with the subpoenas for a deposition as part of the House of Representatives’ impeachment inquiry, but the White House has refused to provide any information.”
The judiciary committee chairman said that the Biden administration must be more open with the information regarding the meeting “in order to provide transparency to the American people.”
The White House denied that the president had any untoward interaction in the legal cases against his son. White House officials also claimed that there were no issues related to Hunter Biden discussed during the meeting.
The First Son claimed during testimony that he was intoxicated when he texted a Chinese businessman that his father was with him in the room before demanding money. Bank accounts linked to the Biden family later received more than $5 million from the Chinese company.
