Farage Declares ‘Brexit Has Failed’

Former United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP) leader Nigel Farage recently declared that Brexit, the exit of Britain from the European Union, had “failed.”

Farage said that the entire process since the 2016 vote to leave the European Union has been poorly managed and that the Conservative Party had “let us down very, very badly.”

He cited that London had been regulating “our own businesses even more” than prior to the exit.

The former UKIP leader clarified further, stating that he did not believe that “Brexit itself is a failure.”

He said that the “implementation has been a huge failure.”

Farage said that many British voters came out to vote for Brexit as a means to restrict immigration, which has not been seriously curbed since.

He said that the “one hope” in the situation was the “Conservative Party’s instinct for survival.”

Farage said that the British Conservative Party will lose in the next general election unless they solve the remaining issues from Brexit.

If not, he said, the Conservatives would face “ten years of opposition.”

Brexit began due to a 2016 vote in June 2016, in which almost 52% of the British public voted to leave the European Union.

The vote had been planned as a promise by former Prime Minister David Cameron, who subsequently campaigned for the United Kingdom to stay in the European body.

However, when the vote emerged as “leave,” the prime minister resigned.

The vote has caused a significant amount of political upheaval in the country, as, since the vote, Britain has had five Conservative prime ministers in seven years. The United Kingdom formally completed Brexit in 2020 under former Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Farage emerged as a key ally of former President Donald Trump. He spoke at a rally with Trump in the runup to the 2020 election.

Farage called the former president the “most resilient and brave person” he knows.

He said that Trump “beat the pollsters, he beat the media, he beat all the predictions and here’s the worst bit, they’ve never forgiven him for it.”
